GhostIRC Acceptable Use Policy (AUP)

1. Introduction

GhostIRC is an Internet Relay Chat (IRC) network designed to support open discussion across a wide range of topics. Our goal is to promote freedom of speech, user choice, and community self-governance while maintaining a lawful and usable network.

2. Mission & Philosophy

• Promotion of freedom of speech
• Minimal moderation by design
• User-owned, topic-specific channels
• No policing of lawful viewpoints or opinions

Moderation exists only to enforce network rules, prevent abuse, and address legal or safety risks.

3. Lawful Use & Responsibilities

All use of GhostIRC must comply with the laws of the United States of America. Enforcement is behavior-based, not viewpoint-based.

4. Prohibited Conduct

• Threats, harassment, or persistent abuse
• Spam, flooding, or automated abuse
• Network disruption or impersonation
• Illegal activity

5. Channel Ownership

Users may freely create and manage channels. Channel founders may freely transfer ownership. Staff does not interfere absent rule violations or legal/safety risk.

6. Staff Intervention

Staff uses a tiered escalation model ranging from network moderation to channel removal in severe cases. All major actions are logged internally.

7. Bots & Automation

Bots are permitted. Owners are responsible for their behavior. Abusive or disruptive bots may be disconnected.

8. Reporting & Appeals

Reports and appeals are submitted via our support page: https://www.ghostirc.net/support, or by emailing admin@ghostirc.net.

9. Changes

This policy may be updated. Continued use of the network constitutes acceptance.
